How a Coffee Machine Works

The Reservoir

The Cold-Water Tube

The cold-water pipe is responsible for bringing filtered, fresh water to the heating chamber at the time of brewing. A one-way valve, also known as a check valve, allows the flow of water through it in only one direction. The valve is located in the hole of the reservoir or in the aluminum tube that carries the water under the heating element that is resistive. This valve stops cold water from entering the bucket, while forcing bubbles of hot water to rise up the tube to eventually reach the faucet.

It is possible for the one-way valve to become blocked. This can happen if you use the machine for a prolonged period of time or when mineral deposits accumulate inside the valve.
